Skillfully Navigate the Most Challenging Times as a Team

An Unforgettable Journey through Southern Africa with Paul Templer

An Unforgettable Journey through Southern Africa with Paul Templer

As a safari participant, you will…

  • Face your greatest fears

  • Learn the real-world value of turning safari challenges into success

  • Build rewarding relationships within your professional team through trust and connection outside of a work environment

  • Be immersed in gorgeous, lush, natural surroundings

  • Have an epic amount of fun and entertainment—potentially, the best part!

Imagine traveling with your team through the Botswana’s Okavango Delta, where you’ll have access to more than 160 mammal and almost 600 bird species. The lush land has one of the lowest population densities in Africa and is highlighted as a stable democracy and political success since its independence from Britain, giving it the reputation of the world’s best safari destination. This is the world’s largest inland delta, formed by the Okavango River, which flows inland from Angola and never reaches the sea.

You’ll experience the animals up close and personal as you become one with your African surroundings.
Your time in Zimbabwe allows you to bond with your team while you share amazing experiences such as how the mighty Zambezi River morphs dramatically into the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls; one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. You’ll experience the wildlife up close and personal as you become one with your African surroundings.

Throughout your journey, your team will be in great hands with two of Africa’s more colorful personalities: your host, Paul Templer, “the hippo guy,” and Grant Reed, your private naturalist guide from Letaka Safaris and the Okavango Guiding School.

Grant and Brent Reed are the founding directors of Letaka Safaris, known locally as the Letaka Brothers. They have almost 40 years of combined guiding experience and have been leading mobile safaris in Botswana since the mid-90’s. In partnership with NatGeo Wild, Letaka Safaris has launched a six-part television series entitled “Safari Brothers,” which documents the ups and downs of running a safari company in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.

All arrangements will be booked through Scott Dunn USA.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Johannesburg, South Africa
You will be making your own arrangements for international air travel, though we are happy to recommend a flight consultant or the best routes. Kindly advise us of your flight itinerary once confirmed so that we can arrange transfers for you.

The InterContinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo is conveniently located within short walking distance of Johannesburg International Airport.
Airside meet and greet
Upon arrival, you will be met by an airport representative holding your name on a board as you disembark the aircraft (or if you are taken by shuttle bus to the airport terminal, you will be met at the entrance) and assisted with clearing South African immigration formalities and collecting your luggage. You will then be escorted across the street to the InterContinental Hotel.

InterContinental OR Tambo – 1 night – Bed & Breakfast
The InterContinental Johannesburg OR Tambo is conveniently located within short walking distance from Johannesburg International Airport. It is the perfect overnight stop before you continue your journey. You will stay here for one night on a bed and breakfast basis. Your host, Paul Templer, will arrange a time for the whole group to meet for dinner.

Supremely comfortable, this five-star hotel is comprised of 138 well positioned en-suite rooms. The communal spaces include a relaxing bar and restaurant, fully equipped gym, and an indoor heated pool with amazing views of Johannesburg. Up to the minute flight information is posted on televisions throughout the hotel.

Days 2-6

International flight Johannesburg – Maun
After breakfast this morning, you will return to the airport across the street and check in for your short international flight from Johannesburg to Maun, Botswana. You will be making your own arrangements for this flight.

Meet Grant Reed
Upon arrival at Maun Airport, you will be met by your private naturalist guide, Grant Reed, from the Okavango Guiding School and Letaka Safaris. You will enjoy an introductory lunch and will be shown to an awaiting helicopter that will take you to the Okavango Delta.

Full Board Grant Reed will be your private naturalist guide throughout your Botswana safari.
Okavango Guiding School Mobile Safari – 5 nights, Full Board

Grant Reed will be your private naturalist guide throughout your Botswana safari. You will have private helicopter trips in and out of Okavango Guiding School, allowing you to take in the massive Delta from new heights. At the guiding school, not only will you learn the skills of conducting a game drive but also how to drive a motor boat as well as pole a mokoro (dug-out canoe) on the waterways of the Okavango. Gain practical experience of tracking animals and learn about geology, astronomy, weather and climate, ecology, plants, invertebrates, frogs, fish, reptiles, birds, mammals and more. When the water levels are high we are able to make our River Runner boat into a riparian classroom, studying the unique aquatic world of the Okavango Delta. At the end of the day we find a suitable island to camp on, and hopefully catch some fresh bream for dinner.

Five nights on Okavango Guiding School’s mobile safari. Completely customizable for your group, you’ll be game viewing between camp sites. Your authentic, roomy East African tent will be taken down and set up again in the new destination ready for your arrival. Your ensuite tent is fully equipped with camp beds and cozy duvets. Lunch is enjoyed under the shade of a mature acacia tree while dinner takes place beneath Botswana’s beautiful night sky, making each meal an event. This is your chance to experience the life of a nomad in the Okavango Delta. Your stay here is on a full board basis to include all meals and local and brand spirits.

Days 7-9

The tents are furnished in authentic safari style with furniture crafted from recycled hardwoods, and colourful East African soft furnishings.
Selinda Reserve – 2 nights – Full Board

Private light aircraft flight to Selinda Reserve

After your time in the lush Delta, you’ll fly north-west to the 320,000 acre private Selinda Reserve, in the Linyanti region of Botswana. You will spend two nights in a remote location on the banks of the Selinda Spillway, a prime game viewing location. This area affords you a classic safari experience but will feel worlds apart from the Okavango Delta. The focus of activities in Selinda Reserve is on exclusive wildlife viewing in a pristine wilderness with no other people around. Walking safaris, canoe safaris, day and night game drives and fishing are among the activities that we offer. Please note that water activities are subject to water levels. The wildlife in the area is excellent with large herds of buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, sable and roan antelope, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest, as well as occasionally wild dogs.

The tents are decorated in authentic safari style with furniture crafted from recycled hardwoods, and colourful East African soft furnishings. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with a bucket shower and a flush loo. Lighting for the tents is provided by a solar powered lamp, while batteries can be recharged in the mess tent. Due to the remote nature of the camp, laundry is not possible here. The large mess and lounge tent has space for dining, though most meals are eaten outside. Your stay here includes all meals and local spirits.

Day 10

You’ll spend one night at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge.
Private light aircraft from Selinda Reserve to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls Safari Lodge – 1 night – Full Board
Welcome to Mosi-oa-Tunya, the smoke that thunders. You’ll spend one night at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. A small comfortable lodge situated on a plateau overlooking a local watering hole and just a few miles upstream from magnificent Victoria Falls. A charming and gracious retreat, each room overlooks the river with beautiful views. Enjoy activities around Victoria Falls including Paul’s claim to fame: white water rafting!

Other activities available for purchase upon arrival include horse riding, fishing trips, canoe trips, helicopter flights over the Falls, microlight flights over the Falls, a tour of the Falls on foot, and elephant back safaris. Please let us know if you would like to discuss any of the above. Many activities can be booked up in advance and we are happy to make reservations on your behalf to avoid disappointment. Your stay here is on a full board basis to include lunch, dinner and local spirits.

Day 11

victoria falls airport

Depart Victoria Falls
You will depart from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe on your flight(s) back to the US. You will be making your own arrangements, but we wish you the safest travels and fondest memories of your once-in-a-lifetime adventure with Paul Templer in Africa!

Note: The hub airport for Southern Africa is Johannesburg. There are a couple of direct daily flights from Victoria Falls to Johannesburg. Price and travel dates are subject to availability/time of preferred travel.

Alternatively, you may wish to continue on to other parts of Africa on safari. There are quick and easy flights back to South Africa for a few days in Cape Town and the Winelands, new direct flights up to Kenya and Tanzania for safari in the famed Maasai Mara and Serengeti or the unforgettable experience to track mountain gorillas in Rwanda or Uganda.
